Updated: Aug 19, 2024

The days are long and the nights are short and the result is dark circles under the eyes that make us look tired and old. We will show you home remedies that effectively reduce dark circles under the eyes.

Rarely is any area of skin as sensitive and delicate as the area around the eyes. The consequences of sleepless nights, stressful days, excessive UV rays, lack of fluids or excessive nicotine intake can lead to the formation of dark shadows. The blood then collects in the vessels under the eyes and the blood vessels shine through the smooth skin under the eyes: the result is dark circles that make us look pale. By the way: the older we get, the more the body breaks down filler fat, which means that already thin skin becomes even thinner with age and dark circles under the eyes are more noticeable.

These four home remedies effectively help with dark circles

1. Green tea

According to studies, green tea has anti-inflammatory properties and protects against skin aging thanks to the antioxidants and tannins it contains. Tannins, i.e. plant-based tanning agents, lighten dark shadows under the eyes and reduce swelling in the delicate eye area. To do this, steep two green tea bags in warm water, then chill the tea bags in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or in the freezer for 20 minutes. Then you can put the tea on your eyes for 15 minutes.

2. Gentle coconut oil

Rich coconut oil is rich in minerals and vitamins and moisturizes the delicate skin under the eyes, helping to reduce dark circles. Carefully dab the oil and massage it with light, moving movements; It works best if you leave it overnight. The next morning you can rinse the oil off with lukewarm water.

3. Cold milk

Swelling can be reduced with milk because milk contains substances that constrict lymphatic and blood vessels. If possible, dip two cotton buds in iced milk and place them on your eyes for at least 15 minutes. You can repeat this process several times when the bandages become warm.

4. Raw potato slices

Not only can potatoes be used in many ways in the kitchen, but they are also an effective treatment for dark circles under the eyes. the reason? Anti-inflammatory and skin soothing ingredients. Here's how it works: Wash and peel the potatoes before cutting them into thin slices. Then put the "potato fillings" on your eyes for a quarter of an hour.
