Four reasons to take argan oil regularly

Updated: Aug 11, 2024

Moroccan argan oil is exclusive and handcrafted. In addition to its exclusive and distinctive taste, argan nut oil is also...

A real health booster. We reveal how healthy the oil really is.

What makes argan oil so special?

Golden brown argan oil is a cultural asset of Morocco. Ethnic groups in southwestern Morocco have been producing essential cooking oil from the berries of the argan tree for many centuries. Since this tree grows only in southwestern Morocco, UNESCO declared its growing area a Special Biosphere Reserve in 1998. In such areas, the emphasis is on sustainable ecological and economic development. Therefore, the production of argan oil in this region is subject to special protection, with a primary focus on sustainability. Therefore, the oil is often produced in complex traditional manual labor and carried out by indigenous ethnic groups. These circumstances explain the peculiarity of beneficial argan oil.

But uniqueness and craftsmanship are by no means the only attributes that make argan oil a Moroccan export hit. Argan nut oil provides many health-promoting components that can make an important contribution to your health as part of a balanced diet. These include:

Oleic acid

Linoleic acid

Tocopherols

Phytosterols

Best cooking oil in the world?

Argan oil is exclusive, produced to perfection, tastes great and is healthy. However, in many cases, the oil is promoted and marketed as a true miracle cure. However, in a direct comparison to edible oils, argan oil does not perform better than other oils. The fatty acid profile of Moroccan oil is the same as peanut oil. Of the fatty acids in argan oil, 80% are unsaturated, but about 20% are saturated. Local rapeseed oil, for example, has better fatty acid properties, is cheaper and also has special health-promoting effects. However, argan oil is one of the healthiest cooking oils and deserves appreciation for its unique aromatic taste and multiple uses in cooking and skin care.

4 health effects of argan oil

It can reduce cholesterol levels

Depending on how it is produced, argan oil contains 1.3 to 2 grams of phytosterols per kilogram. Phytosterols are found in many plants and are substances belonging to the group of plant sterols. These substances are particularly important as part of the cell membranes in our cells and can help reduce harmful LDL cholesterol in our blood. Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol is responsible for transporting cholesterol and fatty acids through the blood, but it tends to build up in our arteries when there is too much cholesterol to transport. Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol is responsible for the development of arterial diseases such as atherosclerosis. The risk of heart attacks and strokes also increases when

too much low-density lipoprotein cholesterol builds up in the arteries.

It can ensure healthy skin

Argan oil contains tocopherols. This plant substance is also referred to as vitamin E and has antioxidant effects. The vitamin thus protects cells from the harmful effects of free radical oxygen compounds that cause damage to the cell nucleus and thus cause skin aging. Therefore, vitamin E is often used in the cosmetics industry for healthy skin and youthful skin. Antioxidants are found in creams and ointments and, along with other active ingredients, contribute to healthy skin. Compared to other edible oils, argan oil does not contain much tocopherol. The value is in the middle and comparable to rapeseed oil. However, argan oil is particularly suitable for massage and skin treatments. The aromatic, ethereal scent has a calming effect.

It has an anti-inflammatory effect

Argan oil has anti-inflammatory properties and can help reduce inflammation. When used externally on the skin, positive effects can be achieved in treating acne or inflammatory skin irritations. Used internally as an edible oil, it can have a soothing effect on the stomach and digestive system. Consuming argan oil regularly as part of a balanced diet can definitely have health-promoting effects.

Supports nerve health and brain performance

Argan oil is rich in plant-based omega-6 fatty acids. First and foremost is linoleic acid, from which the building blocks can be manufactured in our bodies. Omega-6 fatty acids such as linoleic acid can support brain performance and promote nerve health. This can reverse the development of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's. The German Pharmaceutical Journal described argan oil as having “physiological value” due to its special fatty acid composition. As part of a balanced diet, the exclusive oil of argan nut is suitable for achieving health-promoting effects.
