Anti-aging: discovery of an anti-aging molecule

Updated: Aug 19, 2024

Anti-aging

Signs of aging appear in and on our bodies when cells no longer divide, repair or renew as usual. The new molecule is said to act as an anti-aging agent, removing old cells without harming healthy cells.

The molecule removes dead zombie cells from the body in tests

Eternal life is being seriously studied at the University of Leicester. At least this is how the new study on the effect of the molecule femipinostat CUDC-907 as an anti-aging agent can be understood.

Fimepinostat CUDC-907 is a molecule that inhibits certain enzymes and signaling pathways that are normally overactive in cancer cells. The molecule can be taken as an oral drug and used to treat certain types of cancer

However, researchers have now realized that aging processes in the human body are also caused by malfunctioning and non-functional signaling pathways in cells, meaning they no longer divide. Then one talks about old age. Senescent cells are still alive, but they no longer divide. They're practically zombie cells.

Anti-aging treatment with a new molecule?

These zombie cells are then responsible for us humans showing visible and noticeable signs of aging. As the years pass, cells lose their functions and are no longer able to renew and regenerate themselves.

Then the effects are: skin pigmentation disorders, wrinkles, decreased cognitive abilities, muscle breakdown, weak bones, joint pain, organic problems, and sometimes the development of cancer. In short: we are getting old!

In their current study, the researchers found that the CUDC-907 molecule was able to eliminate old and dysfunctional cells without harming healthy cells. It is certain that the key to eternal life has not been discovered with it, but a new possibility for developing anti-aging treatments.

In their study, the researchers concluded that femipinostat CUDC-907 has the potential to become a clinically relevant agent for the treatment of pathological manifestations of aging. This means that femipinostat could become an anti-aging agent that at least slows down the appearance of signs of aging.

Until now, researchers have only worked with cultured tissue cells. In a test tube and under a microscope, they were able to observe the effect of the molecule as a means of eliminating old cells. In the next steps, animal experiments must show what the effect is. There is currently no talk of testing on humans.

Anti-aging with nutrition

A healthy, balanced diet plays an important role when it comes to anti-aging. By choosing the right food, we can provide the body with important nutrients and at the same time slow down the aging process:

Fruits and vegetables, especially berries and green leafy vegetables, are rich in antioxidants that can fight free radicals and thus prevent cell damage. Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, flaxseeds and walnuts also have a positive effect on skin health and can reduce the formation of wrinkles. In addition, it is important to drink enough water to keep the skin hydrated, glowing and youthful.

Anti-aging with exercise

Sport is not only good for physical fitness, but it is also an effective anti-aging treatment. Regular physical activity can help slow the aging process and improve health.

Exercise stimulates blood circulation, resulting in better access of oxygen and nutrients to the cells. In addition, hormones such as endorphins are increasingly released during training, which may increase health and reduce stress. Physical activity also strengthens muscles, improves body posture, and increases flexibility. Anyone who exercises regularly can not only stay fit and energetic, but can also fight the aging process.
