Sports: What can we learn for life?

People who continually strive to achieve a sporting goal often develop skills, competencies and strengths that also enrich lives outside of sports! These include for example determination, motivation, teamwork, humility, as well as frustration tolerance or resilience. . .

For determination: To be able to practice certain sports, determination is necessary. Athletes are constantly watching their target, while others are immersed and distracted. This requires prioritizing activities in daily life and managing time well. Social connections do not fall by the wayside when you practice sports as a joint project in the family or among friends.
Motivation: Successful athletes divide the path to the big goal into stages. You set achievable, short-term goals in order to get closer to the big goal one step at a time.
Energy Management: The actual training effect, the modification, does not occur during training, but during rest periods. Breaks of the correct length for recovery are important in both the physical and mental areas. At work, excessive pressure can for example lead to burnout. By manipulating their bodies, athletes usually have a very good sense of their energy and potential stress.
Ability to work in a team: Everyone works better with others, provided that the partners are oriented towards each other or towards a common goal. Most athletes also work on a team or have active support.

Humility: In sports, especially extreme and high-risk sports, you are often exposed to special experiences. Athletes develop humility toward the environment in light of the experience of their own vulnerability. Then some everyday problems seem trivial. This makes athletes calmer and more patient.
Resilience and tolerance for frustration: Successful athletes can handle defeats. They often have a high level of mental flexibility. In stressful situations, defeat is perceived not only negatively, but also as an incentive to improve. Setbacks can be adequately dealt with through sports.

Every hobby and every profession can be a source of new challenges for less athletes, which are linked to the process of learning and self-development.
